Your compassion is touching.

Even if we were quicker with words than we are, I don't think there's anything a stranger could say on a mountain trail to pierce that kind of sadness. I've been that kid; we all have, at some point. What helps? The things you talk about. The forest. Movement. The plain, unadorned experience of being alive.
