Yeah, people aren’t always particularly smart.

One of my favourite books ever is Lolita. But read it in public, and you’ll get some funny looks, at least. You’re not supposed to like Humbert! He’s supposed to be a monster. A charming and eloquent monster, but a monster all the same.

And don’t get me started on people complaining that the movie 300 isn’t historically accurate…

If every character had to be based on the author and share his/her views, there would be no novels. Everything would just be navel-gazing pseudo-biography.
