Well, that's a contentious one. I once had an archaeology professor who maintained that the best time to live was the Mesolithic, after the Ice Age but before farming. I could see that.

Personally, I believe the absolute best time and place to live in all of human history is right now in the wealthy parts of the world, even with our unaccountable rulers and garbage possessions. But I wonder sometimes if things weren't better in the cave.
