We moved our cat from Canada to Italy and back again. We paid $100 to take her in the cabin with us. She never left our side, so while the trip was stressful for her, it was less so for us.

I would recommend it to anyone moving with an animal if it’s possible. Air Canada definitely allow it. But they only allow a couple of pets in the cabin per flight, so it’s wise to book well in advance.
