True. I've been an immigrant twice in my life now (I resent the term expat), and it always brings with it questions about belonging and integration.

I live in France, and I don't speak French (though I am learning!). I leveraged insane Canadian house prices to buy a place here, where wages are much lower. Some people might see that as taking advantage, perhaps even predatory. But goddammit, I have to live somewhere!

The town I live in benefits from my taxes. I've turned what was a holiday home into a place I live all year round. In some ways, I'm good for the place. In others, maybe not.
