This article deserves a million reads. There is such a thing as quality, and it does matter. As you point out, there’s nothing wrong with enjoying the easy and the shallow. But if that’s all we ever consume, our culture withers and dies.

And it seems that’s what’s happening all around us. Last night, I started reading War and Peace, and found myself struggling to maintain my concentration after a few pages. My phone was sitting there, demanding I leave Napoleonic Russia to see what I’m missing out on. Which, of course, was absolutely nothing.
