The world has never been better than it is now. For women. For people of colour. For LGBTQ people. And yes, for white men like you and me. But if you sit with your lips wrapped around the sewage pipe of media, don’t be surprised if everything tastes like shit.

That’s not to say things can’t be better. Of course they can. But the way to progress is not to attack everything that’s gone before.

The Catholic Church in the Renaissance was an evil, oppressive empire. But the Sistine Chapel wouldn’t exist without it, and it shouldn’t be destroyed just because it comes from a darker world. That’s the problem I have with cancel culture. We can keep what’s good from the past and reject what’s bad. But the shrieking cancelers — of whatever political persuasion — never seem to understand nuance.
