The factors you talk about make me wonder how many people end up in long-term relationships because it’s cheaper. There’s no way on earth I could have shared a one-bedroom condo with a roommate, but I did with my wife — briefly.

To be clear, I didn’t marry her for financial reasons. I did it as part of a citizenship grift. And also because I love her, I guess. But how many people end up moving in together because it’s the only way to make ends meet?
