Some people are stones doomed to rolling, I guess. I loved Canada for a long time, but I have no intention now of living there again. It's changed, and so have I, and whatever ephemeral magic we shared evaporated a long time ago.

Maybe the wanderlust is related to fiction. Why else do we make up stories except to live other lives? Maybe not being content to stay in one place comes with the territory of being a novelist.

I hope I'm done. I like where I am now, and I hope I always will. But that far horizon where the world drops away will always be out there, calling...
