So true. I'm working on a historical novel too, and I get absolutely lost in the research. Even in a more recent period - 1918-1930ish in my case - there's so much that wasn't recorded, so many details I can't discover.

But it absolutely changes how we look at our own world, too. I firmly believe a lot of problems are caused by people who haven't been taught any actual history.
