Recovering Catholic here too. I was even an altar boy!

If religion encourages people to be better, ok. But so often, it seems to make them worse. Like a secret cheat code to humanity that makes them feel justified in doing things we all know we shouldn't, with no gods needed to tell us not to treat other people like things to be used.
