Quick story: I was thinking about getting into the holiday rental game. Barcelona is not that far from me, and when I looked at places in the city, I was shocked by how cheap they are.

That's when I learned that Barcelona has banned short term rentals, with only a limited number of places grandfathered in. The license stays with the property, so if you want to buy one of THOSE, it costs a fortune. But if you actually want a place to live, it's quite affordable.

Good idea, I think. But if they tried to implement something like that where I live, the local economy would collapse completely. We're totally dependent on tourism.
