Maybe. Maybe.
AI should, of course, get more powerful. But that doesn't mean it will get better. Ultimately, all it can do is chop up and reassemble what's already there. It can't create anything new.
And most of what's out there is absolute shit. Very few humans can write a decent novel, and far fewer can write a great one. In fact, when it comes to art, we struggle to define what great even means.
And as the AI churns out its garbage, it fills the internet with its own stink. Which it then has to draw on to produce new content. Garbage in, garbage out.
It doesn't understand what it means to be human. It never can, because it isn't. It can only read what humans have said on the subject and spew it out in other words. That's not art. It never will be.
But maybe I am being naive. Maybe it will replace us as artists. At which point, it may as well go ahead and murder the lot of us, too.
