Like far too many English speakers, I only speak one language. And so I tend to feel slightly embarrassed around people who speak more than one language. They’ve achieved something I still haven’t.

But when I moved from the UK to Canada, I got some of the same treatment you talk about here. Sometimes, people even imitate my accent (horrendously). I laugh along because I know it’s not malicious. But it’s not funny.

I doubt I’ll ever speak French well enough to write an article like this on a French website. You write in English better than many native speakers I know. So what if you have an accent?
