In the US, and in Canada where I live, it's not that hard to earn six figures. A decent management job can get you there. But there's a world of difference between making $100,000 a year and $999,000 a year. The focus on six figures lets people pretend they're part of the elite.

I've made six figures in the past, and I was miserable. I'm much happier now that I'm part of the five figure club.
