Is it even a good idea to turn what you love into a career? This is what I’ve been wondering a lot lately.

If I made money writing what I like, here or elsewhere, would I still enjoy it? Or would it just turn into another job? Living and dying by the stats; worrying that my luck had finally run out every time a piece flopped. There’s something to be said for being a failure; there’s no pressure.

I always wanted to be a novelist. I still do. But I’ve learned in life that things often look different up close than they do from afar.

It’s the difference between just starting to date someone, and being married to them.
