I had a lot of male friends who had kids young. Not intentionally; but not unintentionally either. There was a kind of dull-eyed fatalism to it. "We'll see what happens."

But we know what will happen! Babies will happen!

To their credit, they all remained part of their kid's lives after. Still, I never understood the lackadaisical drift into parenthood-by-default. They love their kids now, of course. But they didn't seem to really want them at the time they were making them.

People are weird.
