I didn't realize Rick Rubin was such a deep thinker. Despite an aversion to magical thinking, I often think the same way about ideas looking for a conduit to be born.

Maybe not literally. But I am well aware that the best work I do always has the feel of coming from somewhere external. The best writing I do doesn't feel like it was written by me. I'm not even conscious of what I'm doing half the time.

I'm going to track down Rubin's book now.
