I can't fault your logic here. And all the evidence backs you up. My only caveat is that there's also the question of what a writer wants to write.

I don't want to make Sandler movies. I want to make something good, something I think is good. If that makes me unpopular - and it definitely does - that's a price I'm willing to pay.
