Generally, I agree. The cultural heritage of a nation rightly belongs to that nation. But I wonder how many important pieces might have been lost if they hadn't been 'stolen' by the great powers of the world.
There's a reason why so much of the world's gold is stored in the US, for example. The sad fact is, some countries are more stable than others. Some are less prone to conflict than others. Some are less corrupt than others.
The Leonardo painting that was supposed to be the highlight of the Louvre Abu Dhabi has disappeared. I can't help feeling that if it had stayed in France, it would still be around.
