Are you familiar with the story of the Koln Concert? If not, it's the best selling piano album of all time. It was a concert performed by Keith Jarrett, organized by a 17 year old promoter.
It should have been a disaster. The piano was shit. The pedals didn't work. The bass register was weak, and the high notes were thin and watery. And these limitations coaxed the performance of a lifetime out of the frustrated Jarrett.
Art grows out of these kinds of limitations. Michelangelo had popes to appease. Bach was in the pocket of princes. Shakespeare had to write propaganda.
Tomatoes grow best in a cage. So does art. And life, lived properly, is very much an art.
