And every dollar you donate to civil rights is a dollar you don’t donate to famine relief or cancer research or the environment or any of the other thousands of worthwhile causes in the world. By this logic, you’re responsible for those deaths too.

If everyone is guilty of the good they didn’t do, the only moral action is suicide.

‘White people’ did not kill George Floyd. A white person did. If we all bear collective guilt for the actions of every person who belongs to our ethnic group, we’re all monsters. If white people as a group are responsible for the crimes of an asshole cop, black people are responsible for every murder committed by any black person.

But that would be an outrageous position to take.
