A farmer named Basilio Uschaya gave the first stones to Dr Javier Cabrera Darquea (a medical doctor, by the way, not an archaeologist). He later admitted in an interview that he made the stones himself, saying it was a better way to make money than farming. He was even arrested for selling stones to tourists.
